Even though it’s the second smallest state in the union, Delaware is currently one of the fastest growing states.  Thanks to new corporate laws, more and more corporations are moving or expanding to Delaware.  The state’s economy relies mainly on industry, like the DuPont chemical company.  But there is also an agricultural sector that supplies produce for much of the East Coast.

There are all kinds of homes for sale in Delaware, from sixteenth century colonial houses to new construction.   Delaware has only three counties, New Castle, Kent, and Sussex, and each one has its own character.

Dover is the state capital, and it is in the middle county of Kent.  It is a small city, with only about 35,000 people, but it is growing rapidly.  NASCAR fans will recognize it as the home of Dover International Speedway.  The majority of Dover homes for sale under $200,000 are in multi-unit complexes.  Many homes for sale over $300,000 are new or recent construction.

Milford, DE is called the “Garden City of Twin Counties” because of its location in both Kent and Sussex counties.  It is also located on both the north and south banks of the Mispillion River, which has historically been an economic benefit to the town.  Today, it’s not only the river, but two main highways, that bring business dollars into Milford.  They also provide easy access to the larger cities and resort towns.  Milford homes for sale range from the new to the very old, with some of the most valuable, older properties located along the waterfront.

As the oldest state in the union, it’s only natural that Delaware would offer numerous colonial attractions, like the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard and First State Heritage Park.  Old New Castle is a historical attraction in itself, with its authentic colonial homes and cobblestone streets.
